NEUROPSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATION

Children are typically referred for a comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation to diagnose or rule out certain conditions (e.g., dyslexia, ADD/ADHD), determine the impact of a known developmental or medical condition on cognition, learning and social-emotional functioning, identify needed educational services or placement and establish an appropriate treatment plan. Common referrals include children/adolescents/young adults with or suspected to have a learning disability, ADD/ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, developmental delays, intellectual disability, concussion/TBI, and seizures/epilepsy. Areas assessed typically include:

·      Intellectual functioning (IQ)

·      Academic achievement

·      Adaptive functioning

·      Attention

·      Executive functioning (e.g., organizational skills, planning, behavioral regulation)

·      Memory

·      Language

·      Visual-spatial and motor skills

·      Social-emotional and behavioral functioning

PSYCHOEDUCATIONAL EVALUATION

A psychoeducational evaluation includes targeted assessment of intellectual functioning (IQ) and academic achievement as well as a screening of emotional functioning. This evaluation serves to identify/diagnose a learning disability only and cannot identify/diagnose other (or potential co-occurring) conditions  (e.g., ADD/ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, memory impairment, executive dysfunction). This evaluation is also appropriate for children/adolescents already diagnosed with a learning disability but who need updated IQ and/or academic testing to assist with educational planning.
