Dr. Ava Dorfman is a licensed psychologist in the state of New York with a specialization in pediatric neuropsychology. Prior to establishing her private practice, Dr. Dorfman held the position of pediatric neuropsychologist and served as clinical faculty at NYU Langone Medical Center where she trained and supervised postdoctoral fellows, predoctoral interns and graduate students in neuropsychology. In addition, Dr. Dorfman was actively involved in multidisciplinary research projects evaluating the impact of concussion on cognitive functioning in elementary, high school and college students.
Dr. Dorfman earned her Ph.D. in clinical psychology with a concentration in neuropsychology at Fordham University. She completed her internship training at Miami Children’s Hospital and a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in pediatric neuropsychology at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Dorfman’s clinical training emphasized comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation of children, adolescents and young adults with diverse developmental, neurological/medical and psychiatric conditions and she received specialized training in evaluation of children with concussion/TBI and seizures/epilepsy.
Dr. Dorfman’s work as a clinician has been informed by research examining the cognitive and behavioral symptoms of various neurological and neurodevelopmental disorders and she has presented at national and international neuropsychology and medical conferences. Dr. Dorfman is a member of the New York Neuropsychology Group, National Academy of Neuropsychology, International Neuropsychological Society and American Psychological Association.
